Wright-Patterson Air Force Base

It's very cool to live close to an active military base. As kids, growing up we were told that Dayton Ohio was #3 on the Russian's nuke list, and we went through a spectrum of thoughts about that, from "Gee, we must be important." to "Holy shit! We're all gonna die!" In the end, the base has been the source of some fond memories: Taking my son, to the Air Force Museum more times than I can count; my very first real estate clients were military relos; all the wonderful air force families we've gotten to know, and my grandma taking me to the overwhelming commissary- WalMart wasn't invented then.

This photo was taken in Spring of 2009, on Sandhill Rd in Fairborn, Ohio. It's right on the flight line, and a great place to watch jets.

My dog and I interrupted a nap on our walk today

We walk at Oakes Quarry Park in Fairborn, and we see a lot of wildlife, still, snakes always stop me in my tracks because I can't identify them properly.

So this baby snake was stretched out sunning itself, when my dog walked past. When I stopped to take a photo, Lucie trotted back to see what the interest was. That's when she nearly got bit.

I took this with my BlackBerry Pearl, while holding the dog back with the other hand. Oh, yeah, without my glasses. I'd love to know what kind of snake this is...
